Keep It Simple…

Although there are many different ways to create an excellent website it is always better, once it is known that a process works well, to keep to the same principle when wanting to achieve an upwardly mobile SEO site with keywords to aid the growth period.

To Begin

It is important to put the effort in to find the right place, or niche, and to the type of market before starting the work.  This way once the building of the site has started, the optimum results will already be known, to a certain extent.  As the return on investment is important, do all the thinking work first, and then the work itself will only be necessary once.  As the intention is to achieve a long term way of creating an income which recurs without further input from the web builder all additional worthwhile work which is done at the beginning must benefit with monetary rewards.

Remember to keep repeating the same reliable methods which have worked before.  Results for new domains aren’t usually attained overnight.  Search engines usually ignore sites without sufficient relevant content and references unless the site has been built with enough care and knowledge to convince the search engine to take a further look.  If there is enough information then the search engines will accept it.  For this to be the case then the site requires strong article content, links and many references from many different sources. This will result in keywords appearing and rising into the top ten.  This of course then improves continuity etc.
Before all this stage however, the site actually needs building and like a ladder it starts at the bottom rung.

  • Which keywords are to be used
  • The architecture of the site
  • On and Off page SEO to establish on and off page links,  backlinks and deep-links
  • The  time taken for the sites themes, trust and the level where it comfortably sits
  • Monitoring to establish that everything is correct
  • New content pages to be regularly added
  • Evolving of the site with extra useful keywords

Keyword Choice

These are the most important way into sight with the search engines and the best method to work up the ladder.  If the right keywords aren’t chosen then all the following work may be worthless.  The object is to drive traffic to the website not towards a competitor!  The importance of keyword phrases and the references and relevance to the influence over other site mustn’t be overlooked.  There are different types of keywords which persuade traffic to come to your site.  Once there is knowledge of the various types and their relevance to your business then is will soon be easy to know these for the future.
As long as you always keep the same approach up the rungs of the ladder then you should be on the way to achieve success.  Different sites will take completely varied periods of time to get to the same position.  Instead of just relying on keywords which you expect to drive traffic, try by using high quality content to create alternative educational or commercial/industrial queries to define the keywords, which may take a little longer time before ranking.
These are known as less-competitive keywords but high quality content combined with both off and on page optimisation can be used to rank reference points.  Once there are some content and blog pages which include the use of more important keywords these can link back to the landing page.  These articles also serve the purpose of increasing activity to the site and also to provide internal links, which yet again, provide opportunities for the major keywords.
As stated earlier the importance of research and working on the found data, then leads to mapping the construction so that the rise through the various tiers of good quality content comes with the passage of time.  Remember that the more competitive a keyword is, then all the other items become more important in creating referencing back to your website.  Eventually the number of keywords will start its own momentum and the various ranking will come from many different keywords and signals.

Site Building

This again works well on the ladder system.  The bottom rung is the website theme and its homepage.  The homepage is where the majority of visitors to your website will start.  The more links within this page will obviously derive the most traffic.  So the landing page or homepage is where everything begins.  From there then there are the second rung pages where the categories are and are the first choice for the most competitive keywords – which then should have their own landing pages.  This is because when the site ranks as an influential site each specific keyword can have its own ranking so that visitors can go directly to them.  If you remember, we said that rankings are for pages rather than the site it is much easier to have many keyword specific rankings which have links from other websites.  In this way for sites which have many topics then the landing page could be the result of internal links for the various keywords.
Each of these keywords and phrases will then require many supporting articles.  So although the website itself many not have many pages, the competitive keywords create its own hub and its own traffic stream.  These individual hubs can then have their own structure relevant to the topic – however they can all be led back to the original site by pressing the home button.
The next rung of the ladder is for the individual articles or blog posts or for a commercial site, the products.  It is wide to note that the more thinly the site is spread then the ranking is also depleted.  For those wanting the more important keywords to rise to the top this method is ideal.  Adding more content to each hub will accrue deep links from other websites to the second rung landing pages.  It is wise to ensure that you limit the primary weighting text to about 60% out of 100 links which will then allow 40% for some overlapping of keyword variations.   This will ensure that all link building will be as natural as possible and avoid the possibility of tripping filters and being pushed back by over optimising them.

To clarify the route for each category

  • Ensure that the keyword is in the title
  • Don’t make the title too long
  • The H1 tag should be for the keyword designed for ranking the page with the H2 tags for closely related substituted words
  • Ensure that the keyword is in the URL
  • A content rich page of a minimum of 500 words for every landing page
  • No more than about 50 outbound links on each page – the fewer links leaving each page then the more intense it becomes
  • Use varied routes to navigate the themed categories and don’t use navigation at all on those pages with less content using relevant links in and out of the pages

Starting Points for On and Off Page Links

Yet again, just work at this systematically and over time it is possible to gauge the number of internal and deep links which are necessary for different sites to become ranked.  There are also keyword research tools which will make life easier.

How Long Will This Take?

As stated earlier on it takes time and effort to build a quality website.  Ensure all the questions have been asked and answered and provide high quality content.  As Google can read it knows the quality of a site and if it registers the site as poor quality with very little relevance there won’t be any progression at all.   If you type an exact match for a keyword – in quotes – in a Google search  it will advise you of how many other pages you are competing with for that phrase.  A rough time-scale to achieve results is given below:

  • Up to 50K easy ranking keywords will take approximately – 1 month
  •  50 to 100K popular keywords on competing pages – 2-3 months
  • 100-300K keywords competing category pages – 3-4 months
  • 300-500K national keywords competing mainstream pages – 4-6 months
  • 500-1MM+  competitive keywords requiring development – 6-8 months

Development of Content

This is, as you would expect, an ongoing process.  Over the first few months it is necessary to add a new page each day so that over the first 4-5 months there will be approximately 120-150 new posts and pages.  This will encourage more activity by spiders and ranking and will give the site an opportunity to gain trust and influence.
Once you are in that position posts will rank and show within a few minutes rather than taking weeks, and every new page create more opportunities.

Evolving of the Site

This is something which will happen over time and by using analytics, seeing what works and what doesn’t and by constantly adding new content and social media links will all progress the site.
The more sites you build, the more knowledge and influence will be gained which will ensure that you can continue to build bigger and better sites.
